Mornings Made Easier

Morning

Our adolescence was marked by mornings of eating Cinnamon Toast Crunch on the couch while catching Saved By The Bell reruns before school. Yet somehow, if it weren’t for Zack Attack songs ingrained in our memories, those days would seem like a literal lifetime ago. As adults – and we use that term loosely as we often feel a little 13 going on 30-esque – the first hour of our day flies by, even when we opt not to hit the snooze button.

While we recognize and love the power of caffeine (hallelujah!) it stills feels like we’re in a race against time most mornings. And since we know we’re not getting an extra hour in the day anytime soon – here’s looking at you, DST spring forward – we figure the next and realistic best thing we can do is take advantage of the time that we do have to make mornings easier, more efficient, and perhaps even enjoyable.

This one could be filed under the ‘fail to plan, plan to fail‘ tab, but we’ve decided to classify it instead as ‘prepare to be a boss‘. Here are our favorite practices to make mornings easier –

Prep breakfast the night before. We love the taste and ease of overnight oats. They’re quick to assemble before bed and they’re the perfect grab-and-go meal in the morning.

Map out workouts for the week. If we’re hoping to head to a group exercise class or roll out the yoga mat in the AM, we know it can’t just be a game time decision. The whole, ‘Namaste in bed‘ line of thinking is its own force of nature if we haven’t already committed to fitting in our workouts.

Select outfits in advance. We can’t all be Cher Horowitz asking our computer what to wear (but let’s take a sec to consider how amazing that would be). Bonus points in that by choosing an outfit of the day ahead of time, the chances of a pile of clothes the size of a small mountain range on the bed becomes less likely.

Skim the Skimm. We love waking up to this quick and creative newsletter in our inbox. Its conversational, yet informational approach keeps us in the know of world news.

And, it may go without saying, but we’re going to say it anyway. Dry Shampoo.

Tell us – What’s one thing you do daily to create ease in the AM hours?
