As a kid it was easy to be comfortable in my own skin because it didn’t matter what I looked like. Other kids would still play with me whether my hair was brushed or in a tangled mess. Adults weren’t concerned with my appearance because as a child, it’s expected that you’ll play around and have fun, and in the process, get a bit dirty or look a bit wild. Nothing wrong there. However, as I grew up I learned that it wasn’t acceptable to look like I’d been playing outside and having the time of my life. Why Every Day Is “No Makeup Day” For Me

Today is “No Makeup Day.” Makeup, what’s makeup? Almost every day is No Makeup Day for me.

When I was nine, a teacher’s assistant gifted me a pale pink shimmery lipstick for Christmas and I took to wearing it every day. It was sheer and after a glug of my favorite Sunny D, it was all but gone. Yet it drove my Dad crazy, after enduring it all week, he announced just before Christmas that I was too young for lipstick and could not wear it at all in the new year.
