If you’re planning on hosting Trick-or-Treaters this year, you already know that you need to stock up on Halloween candy. Sure, it’s easy to run to CVS or the grocery store and buy one of those generic bags of Skittles, Reese’s Pieces, or Milky Ways, but perhaps this should be the year that you take Halloween to the next level and set yourself apart. We’ve rounded up our favorite types of unconventional candy to help make your house be the most unique on the block – although we know that you’ll probably eat more of them than the kids, and that’s okay. Take a look!
Spoiler – this is De’s favorite Halloween candy (even though Kate thinks she’s crazy). Those little fruity chewy guys are perfectly portioned in those tiny yellow boxes.
Sure, you could do a Twix and be like every other boring house on your street. But if you give out full-sized Whatchamacallits, you’ll be the greatest house ever.
3. Salted Nut Roll
Speaking of chewy and delicious, there’s this. Remember these? You can totally still get them by the way.
4. Mike & Ike
Like Dots, Mike & Ike has the perfect combo of fruity and chewy. And they’re slightly bigger than Skittles, making them a good alternative choice.
5. Cow Tales
While we’re not really big on the name of this one (as non red meat eaters, we’re not into the cow reference), we can’t deny the fact that the caramel and cream combo is super delicious.
Okay, obviously this is only going to appeal to a certain taste, but for anyone who loves citrus, Lemonheads are where it’s at.
7. Flavored Tootsie Rolls
It’s like not even a comparison – the flavored Tootsie Rolls are ten million times better than the chocolate ones. It’s basically science.
It feels like Milk Duds have replaced Whoppers as the round chocolate candy of choice, and we’re not sure why. Milk Duds are delicious and all, but they are so difficult to eat. Whoppers are where it’s at.
Raise your hand if you remember being a kid and always wanting to eat the Airhead with the white wrapper (the mystery flavor)!
10. Heath Bars
For some reason, Heath Bars always felt kind of grown up. Maybe it was the fact that “toffee” rhymes with “coffee,” but we always felt kind of adult while eating it.
