Just Wait

By Kate Kole

Last month, I passed another mom at the park. “Just wait” she muttered, shaking her head, as she trailed the three kids in front of her. With my son toddling alongside me, I smiled and thought back to the day before. A man at the mall, noticing my growing belly remarked,“you’re about to have your hands full”. I nodded as we shuffled along.

For every cautionary tale of what’s just ahead is another of the opposite kind: The moms saying how they’d give everything to go back to the season I’m in right now. The ones who would trade graduation caps for diaper bags in a second and eagerly remind me of what’s slipping through my fingers as we speak.

This Moment Matters. Don’t Miss It.

This Moment Matters. Don't Miss It.

By Kate Kole

On my wedding day, I set the intention to savor all the moments throughout the celebration. I’d been warned by many wise married women before me just how quickly the whole shebang goes. I’d watched Father of the Bride approximately 48 times and witnessed with my own eyes what a blur it could be to race from getting ready to the ceremony and through the reception. I knew that I’d better take a full roll of mental snapshots so I didn’t look back feeling as though I’d missed it.

I wanted to remember the giddy champagne infused excitement of curling hair and putting on makeup with my bridesmaids, the look on my husband’s face as I walked down the aisle, the all-the-feels emotions I experienced as I danced with my dad, and the heartfelt humor expressed through dinner toasts. 3 Intentions I’m Setting This Summer

3 Intentions I’m Setting This Summer.jpeg

My favorite way to complete a fitness class or yoga practice is by taking a quiet moment to create and commit to an intention, focus, or vision for the rest of the day. I often notice that I’ll choose the same word – gratitude, joy, or love – or the same string of words – to live a meaningful life – for weeks at a time. It’s almost as if each month serves as its own mini season in my life. Setting aside the time to be still, I typically discover precisely what it is that I need more of as I roll up my mat and reenter the world.

In some ways, I gravitate towards the idea of setting intentions even more than I do towards setting goals. I love the way they encourage dedication to a way of being, without a concrete start/stop date. They aren’t as much about succeeding, or failing, but rather, persisting. With tomorrow marking the official start to summer, I’ve decided to set my sights on these 3 intentions over the next few months: Continue reading

Aligning Intentions And Actions: My 3 Goals For The Month Of May

May Goals

If I were to start a podcast, I’d consider ‘Deep Thoughts In The Shower’ as a contender for its title. Admittedly, I’m not the first person to share that some of my best thinking happens during bath time. There’s even scientific reasoning to support it. So, it should come as no surprise that hopping out of the shower was the moment when the idea first popped into my mind, and it’s been marinating there ever since: If I want something, I have to work to create it. Ringing in the New Year without Old Resolutions

ringing-in-the-new-year-without-old-resolutions

I am a New Year’s resolution pro. Not in that I successfully keep to all the resolutions I set, but rather, in that I’m really practiced in setting them. I’ve forever viewed those well-intentioned commitments as my opportunity to become a heathier, happier, more successful, and generally better person across all boards. Resolutions satisfy the perfection craving part of my soul. Continue reading
