The universe surely has one heck of a sense of humor. How else to explain all those times we took it upon ourselves to achieve greatness and ended up looking like something you would find in a meme. Yes, our lack of skill may have something to do with it, but how is it that things look so good when we see them on someone else, and then when we try them, it’s a wretched mess? It has to be the universe standing in our way, it simply has to. Among numerous life fails, we have handpicked the ones that are the most relatable, and once you see one of them you can’t help but laugh along thinking ‘well, at least I’m not alone’. When it comes to makeup products, there is pretty much no greater tool than the highlighter. Not only is it versatile (you can put it on your cheeks, nose, forehead, eyes, chin, etc) but it definitely helps with definition and just making you look like an all-around unicorn. Continue reading

The holiday season is officially here, meaning it’s finally time for trips to the mall, present-wrapping, and lots of gift-giving. It can be tough to come up with gifts sometimes, especially if it’s someone you’ve given gifts to for years.
Luckily, there’s a lot of great new products on the market to hopefully make your life a little easier – especially if you have a friend who loves makeup. If you have a beauty-obsessed bestie, chances are, she’s a little easier to shop for than most. With that, here are 15 ideas that any makeup-loving gal (or guy) would certainly adore. Makeup had always been foreign to me. Aside from being likened to a doll in high school for my porcelain Mac liquid foundation look, which thinking back doesn’t seem like much of a compliment, I didn’t know what to do when it came to makeup. The one time I attempted to draw in my eyebrows because I’d accidentally shaved half off with a razor, I used black pencil eyeliner. I looked like I belonged in the next Hollywood blockbuster…horror film. Continue reading

Lipstick (and, let’s face it, makeup in general) can sometimes become a bit of a habit. It’s part of so many of our morning routines. We apply our light nude matte before going out to work, or dab a pale gloss after lunch. While day makeup is essential (for some), it’s not always the most exciting. Sometimes you just need a ~*fun*~ lip color. Luckily, dark lips are allllll the rage this season. Continue reading
As a kid it was easy to be comfortable in my own skin because it didn’t matter what I looked like. Other kids would still play with me whether my hair was brushed or in a tangled mess. Adults weren’t concerned with my appearance because as a child, it’s expected that you’ll play around and have fun, and in the process, get a bit dirty or look a bit wild. Nothing wrong there. However, as I grew up I learned that it wasn’t acceptable to look like I’d been playing outside and having the time of my life. Rather, I was supposed to look put together at all times, no matter what I had just been doing. Continue reading

Today is “No Makeup Day.” Makeup, what’s makeup? Almost every day is No Makeup Day for me.
When I was nine, a teacher’s assistant gifted me a pale pink shimmery lipstick for Christmas and I took to wearing it every day. It was sheer and after a glug of my favorite Sunny D, it was all but gone. Yet it drove my Dad crazy, after enduring it all week, he announced just before Christmas that I was too young for lipstick and could not wear it at all in the new year. I was distraught. If it seems like everyone is contouring their makeup but you, don’t worry – you’re not alone. The trend, which has gained exposure and momentum thanks to the Kardashians and the Jenners, began picking up waves last year, but it’s a technique that’s actually been around since the 1500s, where actors in England would apply soot to their faces. Luckily, you don’t need to go out and look for dirt to highlight your cheekbones – you can just go to your local CVS (or if you’re feelin’ fancy, Sephora.) Continue reading
Ah, the elusive cat-eye. It’s simultaneously the one of the trendiest looks but also one of the most challenging to master…or so you might think. You need a steady hand, right? Or at least the ability to draw a straight line? Not anymore. There are so many products out there that are just waiting to help you obtain that ~flawless~ cat-eye you’ve been dreaming of…during your catnaps. Continue reading
