And just like that, summer is over. Okay, technically it’s not quite over yet. But we are beginning to dust off our fall decor and we’d be committing a lie of omission if we failed to admit that we’ve already started stocking up on pumpkin spice everything – ’tis the season! Before guzzling down our inaugural PSLs of 2017, filling our bellies and Instagram feed with apple cider doughnut holes, and tossing on our beloved flannel tops, we figured we’d soak in the last bit of summer by sharing our current favorites.

Here’s a quick look at some of the things we’re all about lately: Continue reading

Why Summer Is The Perfect Time To Try Gentle Yoga

Why Summer Is The Perfect Time To Try Gentle Yoga

By Melissa Coley

You’re probably thinking one of two things. First, gentle yoga is boring. I only do Bikram. Or second, yoga? I don’t know about that. Okay, maybe you’re not thinking either, but for a long time I was a member of the first camp.

What you need to know about me is that I am not a gentle yoga kind of gal. In my past life, before developing CRPS, I was a wannabe gym rat, P90X fanatic, Spin instructor and finisher of a 30-day Bikram Yoga challenge. I liked my workouts fast, hot, and competitive and, prior to all of that, I was substantially overweight (which is a totally different story, but the plot line consists of a torn meniscus, two knee surgeries and a serious Panera Bread problem). Camping Survival, From A Slightly Paranoid Camper

By Mari O’Grady

I am not a very outdoorsy person, and I envy those who come by it naturally. They all seem tan, fit, and oddly calm. I suppose it’s because they’ve found nature, or whatever. It wasn’t until I met my husband that I went camping for the first time. And while I love it, that love comes with a healthy dose of nerves.

If you’re more of an indoor cat like me, here’s how to make your first camping trip bearable. Continue reading

15 Songs To Add To Your Workout Playlist This Summer

Workout Playlist

By Kate Kole

Creating an inspiring workout playlist can feel like quite the challenge. I’ve literally spent hours scrolling through iTunes, Spotify, Pinterest, and Pandora in search of the best songs. While anything goes on my own personal mix, and I have the eclectic combination of beats to show for it, I’m more selective when it comes to group exercise classes.

I try to avoid anything that’s super sexual (because, awkward), incredibly explicit (because, that may be considered just a wee bit unprofessional), or completely overplayed (because, I’ll hear it 5 times on the radio later). Continue reading

3 Intentions I’m Setting This Summer

3 Intentions I’m Setting This Summer.jpeg

By Kate Kole

My favorite way to complete a fitness class or yoga practice is by taking a quiet moment to create and commit to an intention, focus, or vision for the rest of the day. I often notice that I’ll choose the same word – gratitude, joy, or love – or the same string of words – to live a meaningful life – for weeks at a time. It’s almost as if each month serves as its own mini season in my life. Setting aside the time to be still, I typically discover precisely what it is that I need more of as I roll up my mat and reenter the world.

In some ways, I gravitate towards the idea of setting intentions even more than I do towards setting goals. I love the way they encourage dedication to a way of being, without a concrete start/stop date. They aren’t as much about succeeding, or failing, but rather, persisting. With tomorrow marking the official start to summer, I’ve decided to set my sights on these 3 intentions over the next few months: Continue reading

10 Things You Should Know Before Getting Your First Spray Tan

large

By De Elizabeth

I was always hesitant about spray tans. I had images of orange stripes and was convinced that if I tried it, I’d emerge looking like a neon zebra. Perhaps this was from portrayals of spray tans in sitcoms (I hope you’re also picturing that Friends episode), or maybe it was my own experience with attempting to apply sunless tanner while in high school. However, I’m happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised.  Continue reading
