10 Cocktails To Spice Up Your Thanksgiving Dinner

By Catherine Miele

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of the year because of family time but also because of the food. Glorious, decadent, seasonal food and absolutely no judgment from dinner guests for partaking in seconds or even thirds.

Despite my love for the main event, Turkey Day is not really about the turkey for me—it’s about the sides. And the drinks!

These 10 seasonal cocktails evoke all things festive and autumnal and must be a part of your Thanksgiving feast.  Whether you’re pumpkin-obsessed, beholden to bourbon, or deeply affectionate toward apples, there is something boozy and delicious for all of you. Continue reading

Little Things To Be Grateful For This Thanksgiving

Things To Be Grateful For This Thanksgiving.jpg

I love the fall. The leaves start to change, the temperature starts to drop, and I can feel the change in the air. It’s the season for football, sweatshirts, potlucks, and pumpkin-flavored everything. Cool crisp air, beautiful colors, bonfires with s’smores and hot drinks. It is, by far, my favorite time of year.

Fall can get a bad reputation – either it is too warm or too cold, it doesn’t last long enough, it’s a precursor to winter or it’s the end of summer. But when I think of fall on its own – everything about it is wonderful. It is also called the “start of the holiday season” which, I think, is a bit absurd because quite frankly there’s a whole month from the time fall starts to the first fall holiday (hello Halloween). 7 Recipes For A Vegan Holiday Feast

7 Recipes For A Vegan Holiday Feast.jpg

By Katie Lemons

Being a vegan can be hard, especially when living in a small town in the South. Lack of convenience is one of the biggest drawbacks. I can’t just go to a drive-thru and grab a vegan-friendly (albeit unhealthy) lunch and the selection of vegan/vegetarian foods at our local grocery stores is downright laughable.

The holidays are another time when being a vegan is challenging. Family members are confused about why you won’t eat these delicious mashed potatoes they spent so long making, drowning in butter and cheese. “You can eat this. It doesn’t have any meat.” Continue reading

Happy Thanksgiving! It’s been quite a month. In fact, it’s been quite a year. And we’re fairly certain you don’t need us to remind you of that. While tensions are likely high amongst many households today, for various and good reasons, we hope that feelings of gratitude, community, and love have the power to prevail and take precedence. In spite of the pain, disappointment, and differences we feel, may we also take the time to focus on and remember all the people, things, and experiences worthy of our appreciation. Continue reading

On Navigating The Post-Election Thanksgiving of 2016

By Mary Van de Graaf

Like nearly everyone else on the planet, I’ve spent the past week thinking long and hard about this election, going through every single emotion, trying to make sense of what happened, while simultaneously mourning the loss of all that could have been. I’ve been thinking about the deep discontentment and alarming hatred in this country that brought us to where we now stand, and how we can possibly start to mend the divide. I’ve gone through the very troubling reasons why our country couldn’t get behind Hillary Clinton, behind a woman, behind someone who was so qualified, so smart, dedicated, and so equipped to lead. I’ve thought about what we are supposed to tell our children, whether this electoral college petition thing could actually get Hillary in office (probably not), and of course, what we do now. How November Reminds Me To Be Here Now

I love the month of November and the holiday of Thanksgiving which marks it, partially for the delicious food of course, but even more so, for the gratitude it evokes. And that’s saying a lot, because I love delicious food.

The reason I look forward to and welcome the 11th month with such open arms is that it has a bit of a reset and recharge feel to it. The same way that January represents a fresh, new start, November offers a similar, or perhaps even greater prompt: it reminds me to look up and take in all the goodness in my life as it is right now.
